vampire crab diet, including the cold antarctic and deep ocean down to over 4 miles. the largest sea spiders are found in antarctic waters where the cold temperatures slow metabolism and predators are few. their body usually consists of four pairs of legs. but some species have as many as 6 pairs. since their bodies are so small
some of their organs extend into their leg region just to fit. they breath using diffusion across their body surface. in order to feed, they make use of their proboscis the proboscis can be used to mix digestive enzymes into their food. making it easier to suck up and consume. typical meals include coral, sponges and worms. sea spiders have been observed to exhibit parental care. males have a modified pair of legs called ovigers that they can use to carry eggs until they hatch. once a female releases her eggs, the male will secrete a glue to hold the egg masses together. the fossil record for sea spiders is scarce
so it is unknown how long they have been present in history. for more marine facts, click the subscribe button!
